MacRide 2015

Monday, September 21, 2015

There was a very early alarm call for some to get to the start line for this year’s MacRide 25 miles and the Shakespeare 100k.  Alliance Medical were well represented by Directors and members of the Mobile, Governance, Radiopharmacy and HR teams with a few extra friends and family members enlisted (press ganged?!) to support. Most chose to complete the 25 mile route, with Shaun Flanagan and Richard Johnson, along with Keith’s son Joseph and his friends who opted for the 100k.

The level of commitment towards this bike ride was apparent in the standard of racing bikes and professional riding gear, well except Pete Winchester who looked like he’d borrowed his son’s bike.

Everyone set off to the sound of Queen’s “I want to ride my bicycle” feeling energised and motivated. “There ain’t no mountain high enough” said Howard Marsh as we all set off around the beautiful countryside of Stratford Upon Avon.  The ride went through the beautiful villages of Wilmcote, Walcote, stopping at Bidford Upon Avon bridge for refreshments and a regroup of the team but not before one of the team had repaired his puncture. Chris Drakeford had barely got halfway round when he had to ring the Logistics On Call team for back up but as they were busy dealing with the more important matter of keeping our mobile vehicles on the road he was left to fix his first puncture in over 30 years of cycling.

There were no wrong turns or extra miles this year (well except for Sean & Richard on the 100k doing an extra 5 miles) and everyone managed to keep up with Howard. With a quick team regroup, they finished the ride together in around 2 hours 10 minutes, for many of which was probably their “personal worst” however feeling great that they had raised lots of money for Macmillan.

Sean and Richard managed the 100k in a respectable time of 4hours 15 minutes and 5 hours  40 minutes  Keith’s son Joseph and his friend arrived after 6 gruelling hours (and we suspect a pub lunch!)

Well done to all that participated – changing lives together. So far we have raised over £3,000 for MacMillan Support for this challenge.  Thank you to everyone that has sponsored us so far, If you would like to add your support, there is still time to make a donation at:
